Pop culture has iconified the bike ride in movies like "E.T." and songs like Queen's "I want to ride my bycicle", all for a reason - the happy feeling that people get when they can glide happily down the road. Or in the case of the Scottsdale Greenbelt, down the path. Whether you love the bike or would rather walk or run, the Scottsdale Greenbelt is one of the valley's longest paved paths that isn't adjacent to a road. You can even start at Tempe Town Lake and generally stay away from roads all the way to Westworld for a total of 19 miles. But one of the nicest stretches of this greenbelt is through McCormick Ranch, where you can take in green grass, trees, lakes and warm Scottsdale breezes while you try to remember that yes, Scottsdale is a desert city.

Starting at Indian Bend Road, the path hugs Hayden Road for a bit, then once you hit McCormick Ranch Parkway, the path deviates from roads, getting into the heart of the McCormick Ranch section of the greenbelt. You'll bike (or walk) past the west edge of the townhomes at Santa Fe while you enjoy some small lakes that make up part of the golf course.
Once you cross Via De Ventura, the bike path meanders around part of Lake Marguerite, where you can find the Palm Cove condos, some having rooftop decks with a view of the lake. Lakeside Villas of Scottsdale is adjacent to Palm Cove. If you want to dawdle around the view, savor a drink at Press Coffee which is adjacent to the lake.
After Lake Marguerite, the path heads back to Hayden Road, where it passes the spacious townhomes at Las Palomas, a gated community with luscious landscaping, tennis courts and two pools.
After crossing Hayden, the Mcormick Ranch heads into residential again, passing El Paseo townhomes, with high ceilings and spacious floorplans. And finally, before heading into Scottsdale Ranch, the path passes by the patio homes at Sands McCormick.
