New construction for ultra-luxury condos in Scottsdale has been on a tear lately. That's likely because Scottsdale is becoming a top tier city, winning top surveys for best city to find a job, best place to retire and even best digital city in the smaller category. But what's new in the last decade is that the top 1% is choosing condo living here, and they're eating up the ultra luxury price category for condos. Lock and leave is important, along with great views and exception amenities.

This ultra luxury demand has developers meeting that demand, with several new condo communities in Scottsdale and its neighboring city of Paradise Valley. The newest developments are tied to top tier hotel names that you will recognize, adding to the cachet of these residences.

So what communities made the list for most expensive condos in Scottsdale? The top 5 are Ascent at the Phoenician, Ritz Carlton Residences, Villas at Mountain Shadows and Scottsdale Waterfront. Three out of the five have been built in the last 5 years. We've used price per square foot as the deciding factor in our top 5 list. Here's a little more information about our finalists:

Ascent at the Phoenician

Ascent at the Phoenician is a new construction community in a mountainside location next to the world class Phoenician Resort. Residents can enjoy the Phoenician restaurants an easy walk away, and memberships to the facilities are also available. You can choose between the several midrise buildings at Ascent, or the two story villas with garages, all with top-of-the-line interiors. Hiking trails up Camelback mountain are just outside the community.

Ritz Carlton Residences

Just the name alone exudes luxury, and the Ritz Carlton Residences won't disappoint. The villas are single level condos in midrise buildings surrounded by pools and serene landscaping. Large balconies and patios make way to pool and mountain views. The Ritz Carlton Residences is part of the Palmeraie shopping and dining community currently under construction. When completed, residents will be part of a 122 acre luxury enclave with everything close by.

Villas at Mountain Shadows

Another condo community associated with a hotel next door is the Villas at Mountain Shadows. These two story villa buildings are oriented around views of the mountains and the Mountain Shadows golf course and have large terraces or patios. Unlike Ascent or the Ritz, the community is in a quieter neighborhood, with desert backdrops and serene surroundings. The Mountain Shadows Resort next door has a lovely restaurant.

Scottsdale Waterfront

The grand dame of Scottsdale highrise condos is the Scottsdale Waterfront with its two towers defining the Downtown Scottsdale skyline. This highrise community is top notch for services with a concierge and valet, as well as having very classy community rooms and a rooftop pool. Residents have easy access to all the fun festivals Downtown Scottsdale has to offer, and restaurants like Olive and Ivy are just across the street.
